Resolute Bay Air Crash

Boeing 737 of Canadian Airlines “Air Canada” flying from Yellowknife to Resolute Bay in Canada crashed during approaching to landing. According to the meteorological services fog and rain prevailed at the time of the accident. On board was 15 people, 4 of the crew and 11 passengers. Unfortunately only 3 of them survived. Three survivors a 48year old man, a 23 year old woman and a seven year old girl were first transported that day to Qikiqtani General Hospital in Iqaluit. The seven year old and the 48 year old were then transported by medical helicopter to Ottawa General Hospital. Causes of this crash are unknown so far. Accident site was only 8 Kilometers from resolute Bay airport. Rescue teams and military was able to get to the plane very quickly because they were in the middle of maneuvers which takes place nearby. One of the scenario of this exercises was situation of plane crash. Helicopters and couple of hundreds of soldiers was involved in rescue operation. Boeing 737 200 was over 36 years old. First flight took place in May 1975. Machine was divided for a cargo and passengers section. It was designed only for 34 people.
